WELCOME

Welcome to ChangePoint Spokane, a new organization led by volunteers. We have been asked by Spokane Valley Partners to expand their services to the disadvantaged in our community in at least three ways…

1.   Provide skills training and jobs, helping people get out of the “food bank line” to productive employment.
2.   Raise funds for the truly needy. This is being accomplished mainly through point-of-purchase donations through local grocery and hardware stores.
3.   Add a holistic dimension to Partners’ current community services. This means finding needs and filling them.
As community organizers, we seek to partner with other groups that work together for the common good.

Panhandling Solutions…
“Change for the Better” Campaign
This campaign led by ChangePoint Spokane starts with “Operation Cardboard” in September, with the full campaign, “Operation Freedom” making its debut in October. Here’s the underlying purpose.

  1. To educate the public on the reality of panhandling in order to stop perpetrating it.
  2. To educate the public on the reality of panhandling in order to stop perpetrating it.
  3. To improve safety and security in our community and improve the experience here for visitors and for our own citizens.
  4. To support social service agencies that provide fundamental resources to people in need.
  5. To help get individuals on the streets (whether they panhandle or not) into a safer environment.
  6. To help the disadvantaged without resorting to more government or tax money.

Its NOT about saying “no” to panhandlers or about decreasing the public’s compassion to  people who are homeless or disadvantaged. Change for the Better offers a way the public can truly help.

Partners Advancing Character Education
Partners Advancing Character Education (PACE) is a grassroots Spokane Valley initiative to promote the importance of good character through partnerships with schools, businesses, public agencies, residents, faith-based organizations, and community service groups.
Working from a common list of monthly character traits, partners will strive to promote and integrate each trait into the regular activities of the organization.
It is the intentional effort by schools and communities to develop in their students important qualities such as honesty, respect, responsibility and citizenship.
Character education helps students to judge what is right, desire good, and then do what is right.

ChangePoint was formed
to serve senior citizens as well as the disadvantaged and needy in our community.
ChangePoint is working
with others on several community projects that have social, economic, and environmental benefits, i.e. they’re good for people, the pocket-book, and the planet. If you are looking for a way to “give back to the community,” check out ChangePoint! We love people who want to work together for the common good.

Steve Wilson (left) and Ian Robertson launched ChangePoint earlier this year as a way to help a diverse range of area residents from seniors to the unemployed. The nonprofit organization specializes in job training, environmental awareness, communications and support for the disadvantaged.
